Stunning 1920s-1930s art deco glass flycatcher/plafonnier ceiling light with rare swirling blue marbling

Affectionately known as 'flycatchers', these hanging glass bowl ceiling light shades became popular during the 1920s through to the 1950s.

This is a truly rare find — swirling blue marbling on a flycatcher is exceptionally uncommon, and this 1920s-1930s Art Deco plafonnier is a collector's piece. The cool, oceanic tones create a mesmerising glow when lit and a sculptural statement when unlit.

I have carefully restored this salvaged light to its former glory and fitted it with new antique brass components; chains, glass bowl hooks, 3-hook ceiling fitting and lamp holder. It has a new wooden pattress and is fitted with black fabric flex. The ES (E27) lampholder has been PAT tested for safety.

Each one is original and has been used, showing normal signs of wear and tear.

This Flycatcher ceiling light comes with everything you need to easily convert your existing ceiling fitting. Wiring should be carried out by a qualified electrician.

The wooden pattress is supplied in natural pine and can be painted to suit your ceiling colour or contrast with it (If you have an existing plaster ceiling rose your electrician can just use the metal 3 hook ceiling plate).

The flycatcher is fixed to the ceiling with a circular 3 hook ceiling rose and is supported by 3 chains. The height of the flycatcher can be adjusted when fitting by removing a number links from the chains (I suggest no more than 2 to 3 links).

Fitting instructions.

1. The wooden pattress should be securely fitted to the ceiling by a qualified electrician..

2. Wiring of the 3-hook ceiling plate and lamp holder should be carried out by a qualified electrician. Please Note: The 3-hook ceiling plate will need to be earthed using the supplied earth tag.

3. The bulb should not touch the bowl (approx 5cm away) and cable should be secured by tightening the cord grip.

This vintage Flycatcher ceiling light comes complete with a 13w LED (Non dimmable) bulb.
